Persian new year - Nouruz
Saturday the 20th of March it´s was time to celebrate Persian New Year - Nooroz. For those of you who doesn´t know it´s because I´m 50 % Iranian, so it´s just not any random calebration ;-)
I decided to cook something persian for my friends but when I went shopping I noticed that finding Persian groceries in Hawaii wasn´t easy, so I had to improvise a little bit. My plan from the beginning was to cook a stew called Ghorme Sabzi for starters and then Koobideh Kebab for the main course. But the ingredients for Ghorme was impossible to find and two of my friends don´t eat meat so I had to changed my plans.
I decided to skip the starters and settle with the main course, and go with some fish instead. I cooked rice and added red unions & leeks and added spices and parsley. It´s was the solution when I didn´t have any saffron. Marinated the fish in a spice / pesto mixure and to that I made a tomato & pepper salad. Served with a yoghurt sauce on the side. For dessert I wanted pistachio icecream but they didn´t have that either so I took something that looked like pistachio, mint ice cream with pieces of brownie ;-) Everything enjoyed with a nice bottle of Chile wine.
The dinner was very appreciated and everyone got satisfied with a full stomach!
